Electric Vehicle Steps : Step Catalogue : AVS Steps

“But I need a wider step!”  This has, by far, been the most common response AVS Steps has received from transport operators this year, particularly at exhibitions and trade shows confirmed Keith Clarke, the company’s Managing Director.

As the market leader, AVS offer seven choices of width, more than any other company. During 2008, the standard range has increased significantly to include step widths ranging from 450mm to 1200mm. The key triggers for this rapid product expansion have come as a result of AVS working directly with European vehicle manufacturers like Mercedes Benz, diversifying into the UK commercial van fleet sector, as well as expanding into new European markets, notably Germany which has different access requirements as compared to the UK.

Ultimately AVS Steps’ product range has grown and expanded in response to its customer’s requirements, to ensure that the right step is fitted on the right vehicle.  “A 600mm is still regarded as the default size and is used by many of our customers, but one size does not fit all,” confirms Keith. “A 450mm (18”) step for example is perfect for the cab entrance of a Transit, whereas the 550mm (21”) step is preferred by Daimler for the cab entrance on its Mercedes Sprinter.

Then at the other end of the scale, there is Euromotive who use the 750mm (30”) step because it exactly matches their power door system, and MacNeillies who specify the 1000mm (39”) step for vehicles supplied to nursing homes, which allows two people to safely stand on the step at the same time. Buckinghamshire County Council also regularly use the 1000mm step on its fleet of LDV MAXUS Minibus to resolve essential safe entry and exit issues.

The German market too, prefers our wider steps, up to 1200mm (48”), as they tend to fit fewer hold rails, as compared to the UK,” concluded Keith.

AVS Steps offer the most comprehensive range of electric and foot-operated steps in various configurations to suit all types of vehicles, which can then be modified by step height, tread or width for example, to suit company’s individual needs and specific vehicle requirements (side and rear access).  The extensive product portfolio also includes double, treble and quadruple manual fold out steps, 3 and 4 tier electric steps and electric scissor action steps for display vehicles. This is all supported with a UK-wide onsite step fitting and warranty (up to 3 years in some cases) service, which is managed through a network of accredited service agents.
